DIY Homemade Christmas Gift Ideas

I've been featuring some fun gift guides this month (like unique gifts for your favorite hostess or cook), but sometimes the best gifts aren't store bought.  Homemade gifts are a very thoughtful and special way to spread holiday cheer and let someone know you care.  Plus hand made gifts get major bonus points because they can save you some nice cash over store bought presents.  Check out some of the best homemade gift ideas I've come across.

Cookie Gift Ideas

I think that it's safe to say that pretty much everyone loves holiday cookies (whether they're good for us is another story). I love receiving a tin or tray of fresh homemade cookies, but if you want to mix things up a bit  try giving a batch of cookie dough (or muffin/bread mix) in a cute personalized paper bag or in a mason jar tied with holiday ribbon.  These gifts are also great if you're travelling and can't bring freshly baked cookies with you or if your loved ones are far away and you want to mail them your famous holiday cookies.  All they'll need to do is add the wet ingredients, bake, and enjoy!  If you want to give them the cookie dough that's already prepared, mix up your dough and roll it in wax paper decorated with a cute label and ribbon.  Easy as pie cookies!

If cookies aren't your thing but you still want to give a tasty gift, try giving homemade pancake or waffle mix in a nice glass container or mason jar.  For kids, or other candy lovers, jelly bean "Christmas" trees make for a  sweet gift.  A DIY smore kit also makes a fun and tasty treat.

DIY Drink Gift Ideas

If you'd rather give a tasty treat that's drinkable, try mixing up a batch of hot cocoa and gifting it in cute jar or shaped like an ice cream cone.  Or if you prefer drinks of a more adult variety, you can make your own fruit infused vodka!

Of course not all homemade gifts have to be edible.  Check out these very cute hand made gift ideas (that would make great teacher gifts): an alligator sewing kit, personalized post-it notes, or snowman hand sanitizer.

Are you making any homemade Christmas gifts this year?  Please share your gift ideas!
