According to wikipedia they are tobacco hornworms:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manduca_sexta

When they mature they turn into a brownish moth.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7135605065412259682.post-38213017713649968902011-07-05T16:36:30.652-04:002011-07-05T16:36:30.652-04:00Kacee,

Here is a pic of them: http://www.dreamstime.com/tomato-hornworm-with-wasp-eggs-image881436 If you find them with these, I would leave them because that allows the wasp to complete their life cycle and return next year if needed. I often find their dropping before the caterpillars which look like little square barrels.Kaceehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/15841063364772295893noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7135605065412259682.post-33518606956937296862011-06-30T18:26:57.547-04:002011-06-30T18:26:57.547-04:00I got these on my tomato plants last year. Someone I work with said that I should put a birdfeeder near the plants because the birds will eat the worms, but I'm not sure if that's true or not. Good luck with the caterpillars!Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12788456337338306474noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7135605065412259682.post-31359615749862490452011-06-27T19:50:36.630-04:002011-06-27T19:50:36.630-04:00I have seen these caterpillars on parsley and they...I have seen these caterpillars on parsley and they do a lot of munching!
