HGTV 2010 Dream Home DIY Dining Room

HGTV recently revealed this year’s “dream home,” located in New Mexico.  Each year, HGTV designs and builds a high-end, expansive home which is full of the latest trends in furniture and home decor.  The dream home is a great way to see what’s popular and upcoming in the world of home design.  But the best part is that one lucky viewer will actually win the home through their online dream home sweepstakes!
The house is beautiful, but I was surprised that it includes so many modern and European design choices- decor I wouldn’t expect to find in New Mexico.  But then again, I’ve never actually been to New Mexico so who knows!

Check out the modern Euro kitchen:

The master bedroom looks much more rustic however:

One of my favorite rooms of the house is the dining room.  I love the use of natural fabrics and the airy feel of the room.  But you don’t need a multi-million budget to achieve this look.  Check out how I recreated this room using more affordable furnishings from Ikea, Target, and Bellacor.

Original Dream Dining Room:

And my affordable version of this “dream” dining room:

Original Table:  Ethan Allen Aritisan X-Table, $1,399
Similar Table:  Ikea Bjursta Table, $199

Original Lighting Fixture: Ethan Allen Liverpool Pendant, $499
Similar Lighting Fixture: Bellacor Drum Pendant, $225

Original Woven Chair:  Ethan Allen Hand-Woven Chair, $599
Similar Woven Chair: Ikea Harola Chair, $50

Original White Chair: Ethan Allen Thomas Chair, $399
Similar White Chair: Ikea Henriksdal Chair, $80

Similar Rug: Target Jute Rug, $180
Similar Curtains: Ikea Kajsa Curtains, $30
Similar Shelf: Target White Wood Shelf $40
Similar Glass Hurricane: Target Hurricane Candle Holder, $20
Similar Candles: Target Ivory Wax LED Candle, $20
Similar Art: Target Infinite Wall Art, $70

I was able to re-create this entire room (including table with 6 chairs) for less than the cost of just the original Ethan Allen dining table!  So what do you think?  Does me recreation compete with the original room?  And how do you like this year’s “Dream House?”

I love ikea! Dream home looks great, but do they ever say who pays the taxes? Your re-creation is very affordable!

You're responsible for all associated taxes and closing costs. But the grand prize also comes with a check for $500,000 so that should cover the taxes for a while!
